ADUs, the Golden Girls, & Senior Living Solutions

It’s my secret fantasy to one day live with my old college roommates, lounge by the pool while sipping fruit smoothies, live and laugh together like the old days. My husband thinks he’s going to outlive me, but if he doesn’t I’m planning to reunite with my girlfriends, and split up a SFH into a main unit, an ADU, and a junior unit too . . . that way we can co-habitate in harmony without driving one another nuts. Check out this recent NYT op-ed about alternative retirement solutions and ponder how ADU’s improve the solution. Those Golden Girls were well ahead of their time!

In this SF Chronicle article (April 19, 2019), John King writes about the role of ADUs in addressing the Bay Area’s housing crisis. The article notes that jobs in Marin County grew 13% vs. 2% growth in housing units between 2010-2017, while Sonoma County jobs grew 17% compared to 3% in housing units.
